Lena Einhorn: Blekingegatan 32

Mimi Pollak and Greta Garbo on the cover of Lena Einhorn's book "Belkingegatan 32"

Coming back home from Södermalm, from Stockholms Filmfestival, doesn’t feel so bad if one has this book to accompany the flight back to Austria. “Blekingegatan 32” is the name of the street in Stockholm Södermalm, where a certain Greta Gustafsson grew up, better known to the world as Greta Garbo.

Berns Hotel – press centre at the 25th Stockholm International Film Festival

This book by Lena Einhorn (in German it’s called “Liebesverrückt”) takes me back in time to the 1920s, back to a Stockholm with horse pulled sleighs in winter, to Berns Hotel, where Greta attended a ball (and where Stockholms Filmfestival set up the press centre), back to the golden times of great Hollywood studios, and to this “Goddess” Greta Garbo (who was from Sweden – a fact of which I wasn’t aware, I must confess), and I simply couldn’t put the book down until the last page. Superb reading.

Tack så väldigt mycket för den, Lena.

Auch auf Deutsch: Liebesverrückt
